Our Woods is a 6 month project of events based in the wonderful woodlands in Corby. The ‘new town’ was built around them, and this project is to raise awareness and appreciation of them. Some splendid events- like tree climbing for grown ups. i took a group for a day of observation drawing in KingsWood using a variety of materials. In contrast a bit later i led a night walk after which we did recalling from visual memory.
Last weekend two shows opened with my work in: a lot of work at Cambridge Contemporary Art in a three person show, and a few pictures at the Artichoke Gallery in Ticehurst, on the Kent/East Sussex border. Nice photos from Artichoke, with my Fox and Owl in the window, but i haven’t got any photos from Cambridge. However i will be at Cambridge Contemporary Art again next Saturday 15th from 2 – 4 doing a walk and talk around my part of the exhibition.
This year at the Birdfair i shared a double stand with Nik Pollard, which made it an even more sociable weekend. It’s a great opportunity for meeting people, getting feedback, and having more conversations in three days than one usually experiences in three months! I had to have a day in the hammock to recover, reading John Aitcheson’s ‘The Shark and The Albatross’.
Another difference at this year’s Birdfair was that, having supplied the artwork for their publicity, I kept seeing it all over the place. The fundraising from this year will go to Madagascar to save a forest where the Scaley Ground Roller and Collared Lemur live, so they are on the poster. Bit of a departure for me.
